In the mid 2000´s Nader disappeared from Washington and "spent most of his time in the Middle East, especially in Iraq after the 2003 invasion".<ref name=fox/> Since then Nader volunteered with politicians in Washington to act as a "shadow diplomate" connecting to Middle Eastern officials.<ref name=cnn/>
Under President George H.W. Bush he helped to free American hostages in Lebanon after the Iran-Contra affair.<ref name=cnn/>
During the Clinton administration, Nader tried to broker an Israeli-Syrian peace agreement. He worked with Estee Lauder heir [[Ronald Lauder]].<ref name=cnn/>
