In the [[History of the Nashville Sounds|franchise's history]], owners have employed 12 [[general manager (baseball)|general managers]] (GMs). The Sounds are currently owned by MFP Baseball, which is headed by Masahiro Honzawa and Frank Ward. The team is currently overseen by GM Adam Nuse.

[[Larry Schmittou]] along with help from [[country music]]ian [[Conway Twitty]], put together a group of investors including other country artists [[Cal Smith]], [[Jerry Reed]], and [[L. E. White]], as well as other Nashvillians, to finance the construction of [[Herschel Greer Stadium]] and the purchase of a minor league team. Twenty shares valued at US$15,000 each were issued; Schmittou purchased 2 shares, or 10 percent of the team, and Twitty purchased 4 shares for a 20 percent stake.<ref name=BChick></ref> Shares were bought, sold, and inherited, over the course of the next 18 years, but the Sounds largely remained a locally-owned franchise. After the 1996 season, Schmittou (30%) and businessman Walter Nipper (29%) sold their interest to Chicago businessmen Al Gordon, Mike Murtaugh, and Mike Woleben.<ref name=ChicagoBuys></ref> Two years later, Gordon acquired an 80 percent share and formed AmeriSports Companies.<ref name=Gordon1999></ref><ref></ref> The team was sold again following the 2008 season to MFP Baseball consisting of New York-based real estate investors Masahiro Honzawa, Steve Posner, and Frank Ward for an estimated $20 million.<ref></ref> Honzawa and Ward bought out Posner's share prior to the 2012 season.<ref name=Posner></ref>

Farrell Owens, a local amateur baseball player and coach,<ref name=OwensStart></ref> served as the Sounds' first general manager from 1978 to 1979. Sounds president Larry Schmittou assumed the duties of GM from 1980 to 1982. George Dyce, previously the team's business manager,<ref name=Dyce1983>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref> took over the role from 1983 to 1986 while Schmittou served in the [[Texas Rangers (baseball)|Texas Rangers']] front office. The new owners, hired Bill Larsen as Nashville's general manager from 1997 to 1998. He was replaced by Jeff Sedivy in 1999. Somali Medical Pioneer Continues Battle to Stop FGM When she was a young girl, Edna Adan Ismail's mother and grandmother circumcised her in a traditional ceremony while her father, a doctor, was away. That evening, he returned home, enraged at what had happened. "What have you done?" he asked Ismail's mother and grandmother. Cutting the young girl, he said, was "haraam" — a sin. She was only seven or eight, but Ismail knew what had happened was wrong. The event, and her father's reaction, would have a lasting impact. Medical trailblazer Years later, Ismail followed in her father's footsteps, pursuing a career in medicine. She studied abroad and became a pioneer in health care in Somaliland, an autonomous region of Somalia. In 1965, the World Health Organization made Ismail the first Somali appointed to a senior civil servant position. She spent decades with the organization working in Somalia, Somaliland and Djibouti, and caring for patients from across the Horn of Africa, many of whom were refugees. In 1976, Ismail attended a health conference in Sudan that changed her next steps. Ismail, then a director in Somaliland's Ministry of Health, had traveled with a team of doctors to learn about developments in the field. At the conference, Ismail heard, for the first time, people in a Muslim country openly discuss the harm caused by female circumcision, also called female genital mutilation, or FGM. For Ismail, the discussions were a revelation. Back home, talking about FGM, let alone its harms, was taboo. But Ismail knew there was another way. In England, where Ismail studied and practiced medicine, women weren't subjected to FGM, and they gave birth with few complications. But Ismail didn't believe the practice could be stopped in Somaliland, where she had returned in 1961 as the country's first qualified nurse and midwife. "I saw the difficulties, and the tears, and the lacerations, and the fistulas," Ismail said. "This created in me this anger about this damage." Ismail knew the practice was wrong. But she couldn't break through the silence. That changed after the Sudan conference, where doctors, nurses and midwives discussed the physical and psychological toll of the traditional practice. They shared steps that health care workers could take to lessen suffering. They made FGM defeatable. Ismail knew she could do more. She returned home and co-founded a group to eradicate the procedure. She also began speaking up. "I was the first person who publicly spoke about the harmful effects of female circumcision," Ismail told VOA in a recent studio interview in Washington. The practice, she added, "is the most harmful thing that can happen to a girl." 'Little girls are still being cut' Ismail retired in 1997 and built a hospital a year later in Hargeisa, Somaliland, with her personal savings. The facility opened in 2002. "It was a natural thing to do," Ismail said. Doctors and nurses at the facility, also a teaching hospital, treat patients from Somaliland, Somalia and Ethiopia. As a center for learning and caring, the hospital is "a symbol of what we need to do in our countries," Ismail said. "I'm so privileged and so happy that I could also influence so many others and be an example for others to come back," she added. After retirement, Ismail contributed in other ways, in 2003, she became Somaliland's foreign minister, a post she held until 2006. Now in her 80s, Ismail continues to direct the hospital. But she knows there's work left to do. "Little girls are still being cut," she said. Often, it's women — mothers, grandmothers, aunts — directly responsible for FGM, which 200 million women and girls alive today have experienced, the World Health Organization estimates. But men have a vital role to play in stopping the practice. "Fathers must come into it," Ismail said, "the same way my father objected." Legal mechanisms must also be used, Ismail said. Countries where FGM rates remain high have, in some cases, passed laws banning at least the most severe forms of the procedure, but enforcement is key. Fathers should be taken to court if their daughters are harmed, Ismail said, forcing all parts of society to face the issue. "It's a battle that needs to be fought by both men and women — and communities and governments — together." At her own hospital, Ismail has seen progress. In 2002, 98 percent of the women who delivered babies had experienced FGM. That number had fallen to 76 percent several years later. But Ismail isn't satisfied. "Zero percent is what we want," she said.

Ralf Hildenbeutel has a classical education in piano and composition and got early into electronic music. In the '90ies he was most known for his collaborations with [[Sven Väth]] with whom he produced Väth´s major albums between 1991 and 1998 such as "An Accident in Paradise", "Barbarella" or "The Harlequin, the Robot, and the Ballet-Dancer". That period Hildenbeutel was one of the main producers of the electronic music label [[Eye Q (record label)|Eye Q Records]] with [[:de:Matthias_Hoffmann|A.C. Boutsen]] and [[:de:Stevie_B-Zet|Stevie B-Zet]]. With his crossover electro live act project "Earth Nation" he was debuting at the [[Montreux Jazz Festival]] in 1994 and continued to play around Europe until they split up in 1999.<ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref><ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref> Hildenbeutel also collaborated on various club releases under project names such as "[[Cygnus X (music group)|Cygnus X]]", "Odyssey of Noises" and others. Ahead of 2019 Election, Indonesia, Media Battle Fake News As the third largest democracy in the world with a young, mobile-first population and low levels of digital literacy, Indonesia is highly susceptible to the spread of fake news and hoaxes. Government and media-led initiatives have sought to combat fake news, however with much of the misinformation spread via social media and WhatsApp, many fear the problem will only get worse in the lead up to national elections in April 2019. "Indonesia's media landscape is quite diverse and there is enormous press freedom in the country compared to others in the region," says Ross Tapsell, a media lecturer at the Australian National University's College of Asia and the Pacific. "However, it's increasingly manipulated and influenced by media owners who are linked to political parties … push[ing] out a more partisan version of political news." Low literacy, partisan media Revolusi Reza, who is commonly known as Revo, is the secretary general of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Indonesia. "Literacy among the public, the community, is very low," he told VOA, noting that Indonesia was ranked 60 out of 61 countries included in a global study regarding literacy and literate behavior conducted by Central Connecticut State University in 2016. The 2018 Edelman Trust Barometer Global Report showed that Indonesians were second only to people in China in terms of their level of trust in the media. At the same time, almost 80 percent of Indonesians reported to be worried about fake news being used as weapon. "It seems as though [fake news] has divided the public. We see that it's become increasingly urgent to provide literacy to the community about the real nature of this information," Revo said. "Indonesia's digital literacy programs have been cut from schools in favor of religion and nationalism studies, which is a concern for the country because you do have millions of Indonesians who are only just signing up to the Internet," said Tapsell. "Generally it's older Indonesians … that are more susceptible to the passing on the news and views of fake news." Check the facts Jakarta's gubernatorial election in 2017, and the subsequent jailing of its former Christian governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, illustrated the dangers of online misinformation in Indonesia's democracy. The previously popular Chinese-Christian governor lost an election and was later jailed, after a doctored video tape appearing to show him insulting the Quran went viral on social media. In June, the Google News Initiative teamed up with 22 of the country's major media outlets to actively debunk fake news through a website called CekFakta.com ahead of nationwide local elections. "It shows how media publishers, civil society and journalists … can collaborate to face this challenge together," said Wahyu Dhyatmika, the editor-in-chief of tempo.co. The government is also taking the issue very seriously. Indonesia's communications ministry announced in September that it would be hosting weekly fake news briefings and busting hoaxes via a new website called StopHoax.id. But according to the president of the Indonesian Anti-Slander Society (Mafindo), Anita Wahid, the impact of government intervention is limited in the context of an election because authorities are taking orders from the incumbent. "Every time there is a hoax caught by the government, then it is debunked, or an account is shut down, there is the risk that the government will be framed as trying to silence its opponents in this election," she said. Given the centrality of WhatsApp for spreading false information, Mafindo has in recent weeks established a WhatsApp Hoax Buster whereby users can instantly forward a message to be verified against the organization's hoax data base. Wahid told VOA the organization's data shows the frequency of hoaxes has consistently increased in recent years, from 10 per month in 2015, to 27 per month in 2016, to 59 in 2017, and so far in 2018, 96 per month. Fake news in disaster The dangers of fake news in Indonesia were again brought to the fore during the recent earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi. As well as issuing updates on the situation in the affected areas, Indonesia's national disaster management agency was forced to continually bust online hoaxes, including reports of other major earthquakes or outdated footage of volcanic eruptions, which had the potential to invoke panic. In the competitive environment of online media in Indonesia, many outlets have been known to instantly publish unverified information. According to Revo, however, "in the case of the earthquake and tsunami in [Palu] when there was lots of news and video on social media, our journalist friends were more careful and reported up-to-date, verified information." Rainald's origins and family are unknown, but he was most probably born in France. In Hong Kong, airline Cathay Pacific's shares dropped 6.5 percent after it said it had discovered a data breach affecting 9.4 million passengers. The 100-book list voted on by readers was based on an initial survey of about 7,000 Americans, with an advisory panel of experts organizing the list.
