== Biography ==
Jackie Worthington was born in 1924 on a 10,000 acre ranch near [[Jacksboro, Texas|Jacksboro]], [[Texas]]. She learned to ride on her parent's ranch, using everything from the milk-pen cows to the brood mares to train. Initially, she was only allowed to compete in the barrel race at the rodeo. In 1940, she rode an exhibition bull in [[Wichita Falls, Texas|Wichita Falls]] at an all-girl rodeo. Worthington was also an accomplished athlete, musician, and licensed pilot. Worthington was one of the 38 women who came together in [[San Angelo, Texas|San Angelo]], Texas, on Feb. 28, 1948 founding the Girls Riding Association (GRA), now the [[Women's Professional Rodeo Association|Women's Professional Rodeo Association]] (WPRA). As a founding member, she was also the Bareback Riding Director in 1948, later serving as president of the GRA in 1955. She retired at age 32, having spent 13 years at the rodeo with 6 all-around titles and 23 world championship wins in various events, including 7 in bull riding. After retiring, she returned to run her family's ranch, West Fork, in Jacksboro.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1" /><ref></ref>

In 1975, Worthington was inducted into the [[National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame|National Cowgirl Hall of Fame]].<ref name=":0" />
