Poppeada000: /* 2012 - 2013 Program Year */

Project Infinite Green was started in 2011 with the goal of providing a hands on approach to teaching Junior high students about the way we power our community and the different ways we generate it.

"Project Infinite Green was created to educate children about the energy sources we rely on in our modern world. Our programs focuses on providing practical interactive experiences guided by professionals within the industry to help students understand the ramifications of everyday actions and decisions concerning energy."

Green Business Plans
A huge part of Project Infinite Greens program is the final project at the end of each program year. These Final projects are called Green Business Plans, where students apply the knowledge that they learned since the beginning of the year to accomplish a goal. During this portion of the program students receive all the support that they need in order to succeed.

Each group (1-5 students) is given a work station with resource materials for data, mentors to assist in the direction/ understanding of the groups focus and a neutral environment to help develop the research process.

Upon completion of that Program year Project infinite green students are able to present their Green Business Plans to help further the development and to push for the students to continue on with it. Once the students have reached the upper high school levels they are pushed to pursue a multi year project that is considered their Business Plan for that program year. At this point these students working on the Extended business plans will also work as mentors for the programs newer students.

2011- 2012 Program Year
In fall of 2011 Project infinite Green accepted its first 19 students from middle schools in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. These students meet over the course of the school year to participate in STEM related activities. Throughout the year these students had guest speakers from Argonne National Laboratory, Nicor gas, the Department of Natural Resources, and even a trip to see the University of Notre Dame Laboratories.

After hearing from numerous guest speakers and having some on site experiences, these students where tasked with creating a Green Business plan that they would later present to Congress in Washington D.C.

2012 - 2013 Program Year
With more then half of the 2011 - 2012 Program years students returning and a plethora of new students Project Infinite Green was a success. The 2012 - 2013 program year was structured very similarly to that of the previous program year, but with a focus placed on fuel efficiency. For the first half of the program year the students visited Argonne National Laboratory's transportation research division and Sivanathan Labs to better understand where the future of fuel efficancy was heading. After the first half of the program year the group of students as a whole were tasked with the same project. After a year with a focus on fuel efficacy the students were tasked with investigating the possibilities of a hybrid motorcycle for implementations in Emerging Nations.
