He was born in [[Manchester, Connecticut]], on 18 May 1937, to parents Chester E. Morgan and Joanne, née Way. After graduating from [[Manchester High School (Connecticut)|Manchester High School]] in 1955, he married Sylvia McCarthy in 1957. The couple moved to [[Vernon, Connecticut|Vernon]] in 1960, where they raised a family.
