The Colonials, led by ninth-year head coach [[Andrew Toole]], will play their home games at the [[North Athletic Complex]] as members of the [[Northeast Conference]].

The [[2016–17 Robert Morris Colonials men's basketball team|Colonials]] finished the [[2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season|2017–18 season]] 16–17, 9–9 in [[2017-18 Northeast Conference men's basketball season|NEC play]] to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place. As the No. 7 seed in the [[2018 Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament|NEC Tournament]], they upset No. 2 seed [[2017–18 Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers men's basketball team|Mount St. Mary's]] in the quarterfinals before losing in the semifinals to No. 1 seed [[2017–18 Wagner Seahawks men's basketball team|Wagner]].
