'''Sorimuthu Ayyanar Temple''' This temple is located in [[Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve|Mundhunthurai reserve forest]] in dense jungle which is between papanasam and karaiyar dam in Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu ..It is 12 km from papanasam and 61 km from [[thirunelveli]].It is one of the oldest temple which was constructed about 1000 years back. The presiding deity of the temple is Mahalinga Swamy,Lord Dharma Sastha (Ayyappa) appears with his left leg bent and the right hanging down. The temple is under the administration of [[Singampatti |Singampatti Zamin]] who maintaines the temple with all piety and divinity. An estimated 2 lakh devotees come to Karayar on Thai and Adi Amavasya (new moon) days. Also all Amavasya days are very devotionally observed in the temple. People make tents to stay in the temple a month in advance. It is said that Load Ayyappa came as an adopted son to [[Pandalam|Pandala]] king's palace and learnt [[martial arts]] from there and this is said to be the first temple for Ayappa also called as sasta and later Aiyappan temple in [[Kulathupuzha]],[[Aryankavu]]],[[Achankovil|Achankavu]] and [[Shabarimala]] came into existence.People who go for pilgrimage to Shabarimala come to this temple to wear Mala(chain).
