Armacost is a native of [[Glendale, Wisconsin]], where he graduated from [[Nicolet High School]] in 1985.<ref></ref> He later graduated from [[Northwestern University]] and the [[Massachusetts Institute of Technology]].

Armacost received his commission through the [[Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps]] in 1989 and was assigned to the [[Electronic Systems Center]].<ref></ref> He later joined the faculty of the Air Force Academy before being stationed with [[Air Force Space Command]] in 2007. The following year, he returned to the Air Force Academy was promoted to his current assignment in 2013.
He received his military education from the [[Squadron Officer School]], the [[Air Command and Staff College]] and the [[Air War College]].
