== Biography ==
Heather Charisse McGhee grew up in the south side of [[Chicago]]<ref name=":2" /> and is the daughter of Gail C. Christopher and Earl J. McGhee. She was initially drawn to theater and creative writing but eventually became interested in economic policy.<ref name=":2" /> She graduated from [[Milton Academy]] in 1997.<ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref> McGhee received a B.A. in American Studies from [[Yale University]] in 2001.<ref name=":2" /> After leaving college, she initially tried to find work in Hollywood but after a year moved to New York and began working with the non-profit think tank [[Demos (U.S. think tank)|Demos]], around the age of 22.<ref name=":2" />

McGhee connected with with [[Elizabeth Warren]] and her daughter Amelia Warren Tayagi on the topic of credit card debt in 2003.<ref name=":2" /> After feeling limited by her education level, McGhee attended the [[University of California, Berkeley]] for law school, graduating in 2009, because she believed a law degree could help give her the credentials to change public policy.<ref name=":1" /><ref name=":2" /><ref name=":3">Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref>
