'''David Berger''' (born March 30, 1949) is an American jazz composer, arranger, conductor, bandleader, educator, author, musical entrepreneur, and trumpet player. A leading authority on the music of [[Duke Ellington]] and [[Billy Strayhorn]], having transcribed more than 500 complete scores by these artists, Berger has been instrumental in generating new interest in and appreciation of their work, particularly through [[Jazz at Lincoln Center]]'s [[Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival|Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival]], to which he has contributed numerous transcriptions, and for which he has served as an adjudicator since 2002<ref></ref>. Between 1988 and 1994, Berger served as the conductor and arranger for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (now known as the [[Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra]])<ref></ref>. Berger conducts his big band, the David Berger Jazz Orchestra, also known as the Sultans of Swing, and runs his own music publishing company, Such Sweet Thunder, Inc<ref></ref>.
