== Background ==
It was long lasting demand of the people of Ladakh region to have union territory as they were feeling neglected by J&K government. <ref></ref><ref> Ladakh to be made into Union Territory without legislature: What it means|website=Moneycontrol|access-date=2019-08-06}}</ref>Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 was introduced to the upper house of Indian Parliament-- Rajya Sabha by Home minister [[Amit Shah]] to bifurcate the previous Indian state [[Jammu and Kashmir]] into two union territories namely Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.<ref name=":0" />
